HORIZON-CL4-2027-01-MAT-PROD-08
Objective and scope
Enable commercially viable renewable textile fibres and sustainable chemicals to replace virgin fossil-based inputs while maintaining product quality, durability and functionality.
Scope of activities
- Improve processing of recycled, regenerated and bio-based fibres and sustainable processing and functionalising chemicals across spinning, weaving, knitting, dyeing and finishing.
- Measure biodiversity outcomes with existing monitoring, reporting and validation methods, adapting and testing them where needed.
- Characterise material and chemical performance, assure quality, and mitigate processing and functional limitations.
- Develop best practices and training for designers, manufacturers, brands, end-of-life managers and users.
- Establish practical approaches to collective cost and risk sharing and smart scaling, including suitable blending or drop-in approaches.
Involve material and chemical suppliers, processing-technology developers, industrial manufacturers and commercial end users. Participation of designers, brands, collectors, sorters, recyclers and remanufacturers is encouraged. Research and innovation must address missing elements; merely integrating existing technologies is outside scope. Include a business case and exploitation strategy.
Expected technology development: TRL 5 → 6–7.
Eligible applicants
Eligible applicants include SMEs and start-ups, large companies, universities, research organisations and RTOs, public bodies and non-profit organisations with relevant expertise.
A standard collaborative consortium normally requires at least three independent legal entities from three different EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries, including at least one entity established in an EU Member State. Participation and funding are subject to the General Annexes and topic-specific conditions.
Consortium profiles
Textile manufacturers, renewable-fibre and sustainable-chemical suppliers, machinery providers, brands, commercial end users, designers, research organisations and textile recovery or recycling actors.
Funding
Type of action: Innovation Action (IA)
Funding rate: Up to 70% for profit-making entities and up to 100% for non-profit legal entities.
Total topic budget: €16 million.
Expected EU contribution per project: €4–6 million. Other requested amounts may be considered if justified.
Funding uses a lump sum. The project budget should cover the justified research, development, demonstration, management and exploitation activities needed to deliver the work plan.
Proposals should allocate 10–25% of their EU contribution to grants for SMEs through financial support to third parties. The maximum grant is €150,000 per third party. This is a requirement within the funded Horizon projects, rather than a separate SME cascade call.
Deadline for submission
Opening date: 13 October 2026.
Deadline: 2 February 2027, 17:00 Brussels time (CET).
Single-stage submission through the EU Funding & Tenders Portal.
