HORIZON-CL4-2027-01-MAT-PROD-22
Objective and scope
Reduce Europe’s dependence on critical and strategic raw materials through safer and more sustainable advanced materials and more efficient production processes.
Scope of activities
- Develop advanced materials that substitute critical or strategic raw materials while meeting the performance, safety and sustainability requirements of their intended application.
- Develop industrial processes that reduce raw-material use and improve safety, flexibility, scalability and cost efficiency.
- Co-develop materials and industrial processes, demonstrating the benefits through concrete use cases with wider industrial relevance.
- Cover material and process redesign through integration into products, including any adaptations needed for existing manufacturing lines. Relevant sectors include energy, mobility, construction, electronics, medical devices and chemicals.
- Identify substitution barriers, market demand and scale-up potential. Apply Safe and Sustainable by Design throughout decision-making, support data sharing with the Common Data Platform for Chemicals, and include a business case and exploitation strategy. Cooperate with relevant projects and EU Innovation and Substitution Hubs where appropriate.
Expected technology development: TRL 5 → 7.
Eligible applicants
Eligible applicants include SMEs and start-ups, large companies, universities, research organisations and RTOs, public bodies and non-profit organisations with relevant expertise.
A standard collaborative consortium normally requires at least three independent legal entities from three different EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries, including at least one entity established in an EU Member State. Participation and funding are subject to the General Annexes and topic-specific conditions.
Specific country and control restrictions: Participation is limited to entities established in EU Member States, Horizon Europe Associated Countries, OECD countries, African Union states, MERCOSUR, CARIFORUM, the Andean Community, and countries meeting the topic’s EU raw-materials partnership or trade-agreement criteria. Entities directly or indirectly controlled by an ineligible country or entity cannot participate. Country eligibility for participation does not automatically establish eligibility for EU funding.
Consortium profiles
Advanced-materials developers, process-technology providers, manufacturers, industrial end users, research organisations and partners supporting substitution, safety, sustainability and industrial scale-up.
Funding
Type of action: Innovation Action (IA)
Funding rate: Up to 70% for profit-making entities and up to 100% for non-profit legal entities.
